INTERNATIONAL AUTHENTIC MOVEMENT DAY
Honoring Mary Starks Whitehouse
International Authentic Movement Day was held on October 4th, 2021 the 110th birthday of Mary Starks Whitehouse (1911-1979), whose teaching and writing laid the essential foundation for the inner-sourced approach to movement that came to be known as Authentic Movement.
Nina Kungurova, a teacher of the Discipline of Authentic Movement based in Moscow, Russia, hosted a gathering of the international community of Authentic Movement practitioners. Authentic Movement practitioners from all over the world gathered together in gratitude for Mary, a celebration of all that has grown and developed over many years into a diverse and vibrant field, sharing the ritual of practice together.
Bonnie Morrissey and Paula Sager joined host Nina in sharing insights regarding Mary’s legacy and the special quality of movement and presence she explored. Janet Adler offered some memories of Mary as her teacher through video recording during our gathering.
Thank you to Mary…and all of your own teachers.
